While you might have to upshift more, you will probably have to downshift less (or...at least there will be less of a 'deadzone' in between gears where you're out of the power band) You could also increase the redline from the factory setting. I think aftermarket ECU's go to 7500 rpm, correct? Perhaps 8000 rpm would be within reason with some mods, though I'm not sure how much work that would take. Also, make sure the tach is calibrated right so you're not shifting too early. Pro racing teams would change their gear ratios to suit each individual track, so obviously there is no one size fits all solution, but the car would undoubtedly be faster than before on a roadcourse where the top speed is at or below about 130 mph, and for those really fast straightaways fifth gear with 4.10 differential wouldn't be too much worse than 4th gear with the stock gearing (shouldn't be too hard to calculate the final drive for both of those scenerio's, find the average power the car would make in the rpm ranges involved, and get an approximate acceleration value for each condition). I definetly think it'd be worth trying. Worst case, just buy two differentials, one with 4.10 gears, and swap as needed =)
